The attraction in this painting comes through its physical depth, overpowering the traditional mounting of a painting and granting a sculptural approach to the art when elegantly leant against a wall. The unstructured background is applied by giving minimal time for layers of cream emulsion to dry, before applying the next layer, forcing the trapped air to makes its way to the surface and leaving a natural shaping to the cream. There is a conscious structure applied through the use of both grey and bold shapes. The structure from the black has a habit of breaking the composition, through the reflective nature to the material. When observed closely, the work purposefully loses balance by drawing the attention of the viewer to the reflection rather than the painting, confusing the conscious viewpoint.
